Pet Peace of Mind of Central Oregon

We believe that no one should have to live without their pet when going through a life-limiting illness.

Pet Peace of Mind preserves the bond between patients and their pets.

Pets are family.

Pets offer unconditional love, acceptance, comfort, and companionship at times when it is needed most. Protecting the bond and nurturing the relationship between people and their pets are important gifts to someone struggling with a serious illness.

“During the dying process, we lose the ability to care for ourselves, much less our pets,” said Tania Crawford, Volunteer Coordinator at Hospice of Redmond.

Oftentimes, caregivers are overwhelmed and do not have enough time to take care of the pet, and the pet gets unintentionally neglected or surrendered to a rescue organization or shelter.  Statistics show that nearly 50 percent of owner relinquishments at shelters are due to illness or the death of the pet’s owner.

How does Pet Peace of Mind help?

Pet Peace of Mind is a national program provided by Hospice of Redmond that enables hospice patients to keep their pets at home throughout the end-of-life journey. Pet Peace of Mind volunteers are specially trained to provide in-home pet care assistance when the patient needs help caring for a pet. Volunteers can assist with feeding, walking, and transporting pets to the vet and groomer. They also help make connections that enable the patient to locate a loving new home when necessary. With this kind and compassionate support, patients no longer have to worry about their pet’s current or future needs.
